Dear Mr. Altaf Batliwala,

The fees in past years were as below :-
* Yr. 2016 - Fees was Rs. 750/- for one yr (and 2250/- for 3yrs)
* Yr. 2020 - Fees was Rs. 5330/- for one yr.
* Yr. 2021 - Fees became Rs. 8805/- for one yr
* Yr. 2022 - not aware because MCGM portal showing SAP error.

Such Sudden and large, increase is license fees is really worrying matter. But if you have gone through the list of licensed SEs (available on MCGM portal) then you will be surprised to note that 90% out of them are 'none-functional' / 'inactive' licenses (many people acquire licenses only out of enthusiasm but do not practice it); several of my senior junior colleagues (who have no education in structural engineering neither any remote knowledge of structures / analysis / codes / buildings) are seen in the list having 'infinite tall buildings license'. In past, such professionals kept on renewing their dormant licenses only out of curiosity, pride and affordable fees (imagine if the building designed by such professionals collapses!). Many teaching professionals also took these licenses but never designed a single beam or a slab !

I think due to sudden increase in fees, all dormant / none-practicing holders dropped out significant numbers. And those who are really practicing upto 10lakh (min) to 2cr per year will renew the license. But off course this is only a side effect - and can not justify sudden surge in the fees.

ISSE, IIBE, SEFI, ACCE, ACI (Maharashtra chapter), InSDAG, IEI should jointly have a meeting with MCGM governing council towards easing the situation and financial burden on 'realPRACTICING(and not just enthusiastic none-practicing) S.E. Community'

Enclosed Image shows a circular which was pasted outside MCGM clerks cabin in Wadala (Mumbai) Office in May Yr. 2021.

Anyone aware weather this still works or any changes ?

Life Certificate is different. This step comes after the renewal application with necessary documents have been uploaded and the application approved by the EE.
I think this is is required to prove that the applicant is "Alive" !! . May be a Family Doctor may be able to give such a certificate.
Any body else gone thorough this step please enlighten.

Thanks
