Dear Abhyankar,
I appreciate your idea. I am glad that you already implemented it in HCC. Great!
As an author of a few books, I will be too happy to have such a forum in SEFI.
But I do not understand the following sentence in your email: "Many times we notice that it is possible for any unknown person to publish his writing (irrespective of its quality), just because of TECHNOLOGY made it economic. The longitivity has reduced."
Do you think writing a book is very easy? Any well known publisher will not accept any unknown author. Moreover some sample chapters are reviewed by their tech. committee(which has reputed professors and authors) and then only the book will be accepted for publication. Also if the publishers are publishing such books(without quality) it will eat into their profits. Afterall they want to publish books to make profit! Perhaps what you meant was the proliferation of Publishing houses publishing books and Journals.
以我的经验,还在印度和美国,我佛und that many publishers are interested in publishing only text books and are reluctant to publish reference books. It took lot of convincing on my part to make Wheelers(now they closed down) to publish my book on Space Structures - which got ACCE -Nagadi award and remains as the only book on this subject in India. I am sure my friend Prof. Prakash Rao might have faced the same problem while publishing his book on Detailing of RC structures- since no such course is available in India.
Best wishes and Regards,
Subramanian
We, in HCC, are planning to implement a scheme called 'Book Readers Group'. Here in this activity we are planning to review any Technical / Managerial book at every fortnight. For this we conduct a small informal meeting for Book Lovers of HCC. We try to discuss the gist of any one 智慧书,目的是总结h the "Central Thought" of the book. We encourage lot of reading in many other innovative ways too.
Can we run a similar activity here, online. Every week one of the 'Sefian' may come forward and share his views on any of the OLD / NEW technical book, briefly. I feel that this will bring us closer and Finally lead to 'Excellence'. (But one rule which we have to keep in mind is while sharing the views - 'NO HARSH REMARKS / LANGUAGE' to be used)
What do you think . . . please respond
