****************************************** e-Conference on ``Licensing Issues in Structural Engineering profession in the Indian context`` organised by Structural Engineers Forum of India (//www.buonovino.com/) under the aegis of Babtie Technical Assistance Team as a part of the ADB Technical Assistance Project for Capacity Building for Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction and Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority ****************************************** I congratulate SEFI on organizing this e-conference on such an important issue of Licensing in Structural Engineering profession. In this context very important opinions have been put forth by friends Mr. Punkaj Gupta, Mr. Alok Banerjee and Mr. Upendra Purandare. I do agree with their opinions and I am not going to repeat the same. Ill simply present some more points which may probably be worth considering. 1. In order to demand justice and our rights I think all the practicing Structural Engineers must unite. The unity can only demand respect. But then there are so many societies, associations and forums of the structural engineers. How can we come together on a platform? 2. In my humble opinion licensing along with togetherness can check the quacks in the structural engineering profession which is one of the biggest threat to a genuine practicing str. Engrs. 3. So Licensing of Structural Engineers should be started IMMEDIATELY without further delay. But the question is who will do it? Need of the hour is a body must be formed comprising of eminent engineers and scholars who can decide on its course of action. 4. It is observed that most often major share of consultancy fees is enjoyed by the architect whereas all the responsibility of safety is put on the structural engineer who are meagerly paid. There is no comparison between fees of an architect and a structural engineers whose job is of more importance than that of the former. 5.最后一件事。我们必须开始体育教育ople about the role of Structural Engineers in Design and i Gujarats earth quake was a blessing in disguise to structural engineers that people started realizing the importance of str engr. But a lot has to be done. Ill be extremely obliged if the above points are worth considerations. Thanx
