Yes , it very sane viewpoint from Er SPS.
Black cotton / expansive soils need to be replaced by good earth / sand fill preferably in entire area , which may be costly . Separation from exp soil can be achieved by creating a Sand separation layer on sides and bottom of foundations . Reference can be made to NBC where protection of grade beams from exp soils is shown. |

Expansive soils :
Service lines are affected due to such soils . Here also it is better to use more flexible pipes like HDPE for sewerage and storm water lines. Trenches in which these pipes are laid need to be backfilled with sand/ sand+good earth fill. |
