Lessons learnt from professional life of a Civil Engineer
1 Working as civil engineer is not an easy task throughout life / career
2 Civil engineer requires high degree of vision, patience & commitment towards works
3 Civil engineer should develop habit of concentration & determination
4 Civil engineer should develop habit of passing to others, certainly clear & precise instructions for works to be executed as well as, prosecuted
5 Civil engineer works from activity of removing garbage to delivering a finished building & other products

18 Civil engineer should not care for working within schedule time limits, but to compile all activities related to job description
19 Civil engineer should not blame subordinates every time, but hide their lapses by timely correction of errors & non compliances
20 Civil engineer should strongly care about Safety, Health & Environment discipline, while carrying out all activities, since SHE is very significant sphere in construction to work, without loss of life or fatalities
21 Civil engineer should consider work team members humans & must treat accordingly
22 Civil engineer should consider quality approach in a practical way & not just be bound by formats & norms
23 Civil engineer has to work within triangular limits / constraints of Time, Cost & Quality
24 Civil engineer has to chart out budget relevant to whatever project that is assigned, since I have experienced on project, nobody knows expenses that have been made & balance requirement
25 Civil engineer must be an excellent coordinator to ensure interfacing & systems working smoothly for purpose of prosecution
26 All drawings must be continuously studied, so as to avoid clashes, so as to avoid wastage over triangle of Time, Cost & Quality
27 Civil engineer should depend as minimum as, possible for accomplishing office activities & technical documentation to be conducted by juniors, but better to be carried out by self, so that thoughts are incorporated on such procedures
28 Civil engineer should involve self only for report writings, so that real picture is reflected & to accomplish writings, must be an excellent writer for making successful communications
29 Technical queries should be examined by self, keeping in consideration all contract technical documents
30 All technical documentation, shop & working drawings should be supervised personally, while such documents are in production stage
31 Construction method statements pose a real working issue for site compliance & therefore, must be effected by a good interaction with site managers & requirements within contract specifications, since these methods guide site team about, how & in what sequence, works are required to be performed
32 Planers should consult site managers, prior to finalizing schedule on their own, since it may be in different sequence than what site managers think of or prefer to
33 Factually, every activity can be carried out employing many methods, out of which, best one should be opted for to save time & cost as well as, to produce value engineering
34 Designers should coordinate with site manager or site structural engineer, prior to issuing structural details, so that site knows about, what is required by designers
35 It is also, advisable that designers should support site team by issuing structural prosecution guide, so that site team can carry out activities, without certain mixing up
36 Safety Health & Environment personnel consider that safety first means they are first, which is incorrect understanding, because safety is responsibility of each & every one
37 Safety Health & Environment personnel should regularly advise site personnel by demonstration of specific difficult activities about, how to carry out safe in all respects
38 All personnel deployed must be inducted with minimum Safety Health & Environment training each time whatever project is enjoined, while thereafter, job related safety should be provided from time to time
39 Quality Requirement / Assurance system has been modified under ISO 9001-2015, which has inducted many considerable changes, such as leaders are responsible for applying & meeting quality disciplines, risk management needs thorough consideration & not leaving to protective management as well as, overall variation of documents
40 In fact, quality world has been emphasized to work on process controls in all spheres of quality including consideration of all stake holders & all indirect impact upon people
41 Quality has been taken off from clutches of quality representatives, which means that all leaders leading each discipline or group shall have to involve with quality criteria & quality goal achievement
42 Till now, whatever quality related documentations & processes had been effected would constitute support structure, within quality system, whereas main quality requirement of scope document shall be charted out for declaration & effect by organization for approval & compliance, including internal & external audit
43 It is easy to do as much work as possible personally, rather than delegating to others, who would make many mistakes, until it is made sure that junior is well trained in that activity, no risk should be taken by delegation
44 Priority should be given to do right work first time every time to avoid repetition of activities, since loss of time is expensive
45 Activity related to concreting should be controlled very tightly, because once poured, it is very expensive & time consuming to impart / apply remedial measures
46 Concreting activity should be considered & reviewed thoroughly, so that no incorrect actions are embedded in / applied at, in particular related to inserts as well as, related to quality controls, since it is well understood, when concrete cube fails, what happens to concrete & to project
47 Do not take curing of concrete for granted, since it can cause incurable problems & element cast may be ordered to be dismantled leading to site mishap & waste of time, cost & quality in every respect
48土木工程师也负责conducting & attending meetings regularly at site level, coordination level as well as, management level & with consultants & client, which makes meetings part on project activity very significant, which engineer has to prepare well to submit meeting reports documents, raise questions & to respond to questions related to project management activities whatsoever
49 Writing minutes activity is also, very significant, which should be pointed, precise & clear in communication, so that persons responsible for actions, do act promptly, while those, who are informed understand messages / notices
50 Working by a civil engineer & image making is very serious issue, which once made, works well, otherwise, reputation is lost permanently
