SIR/MAM
我有QUAERY浮动列。是什么CORRECT PROCESURE FOR DESIGNING OF FLOATING COLUMN IS WE HAVE TO TAKE REACTIONAT THE END BUT USING PINNED SUPPORT. AND THEN WE HAVE TO DESIGN BEAM FOR THAT REACTION AND FURTHER REMOVLE THE PINNED SUPPORT AND DESIGN THE FLOATING COLUMN. IS THIS IS THE RIGHT PROCESURE. OR WE HAVE TO DIRECTLY DESIGN IN SOFTWARE. IS FLOATING COLUMN IS ALSO DESIDNED FOR EARTHQUAKE LOAD |

Floating columns
Floating Columns , Concealed Beams , Thin Columns (150 wide ) are unconventional Structural elements being provided by some bold Structural Designers out of Architectural needs and not as luxury in small constructions .
As regards Floating Columns, these do not start from foundation level but may start at certain floor over RCC beams / masonry for one or at the most two storeys but there is need to have beams at base as well as top of F/cols at each floor level . Beams , if provided in both directions , is better . In design , the F/ Columns are treated as pinned base for Gravity loading . The earthquake forces for loading shared by these Columns need to be transfered to main building Columns in manual working , but these F Columns need to be designed for at least 25% of EQ , though 100% of their EQ is transferred to Main Columns. Modelling needs to be done accordingly.
Also Please refer IS 1893 in regard to Gravity Columns which are not Floating Columns, but Columns in rcc construction taking care of gravity loading only. Floating column at floor where provided can be treated similarly for EQ . |

FLOATING COLUMNS :
Even in Buidings like 5 star Hotels , Floating Columns are provided from first floor upwards , but floating columns emerge up from a heavy TRANFER GIRDER resting (monolithic ) to Large RCC columns at ground storey , ( GF generally of double height with huge entrance canopy and big hall ) .
Transfer Girder is designed for Gravity loading and moments under Normal condition and under EQ case it is to be designed for flexural / and twisting moments due to base shear from floating columns. In this case floating columns going up are not gravity columns but also share full EQ and pass on base shear to TG.
However in case of shear walls taking care of EQ forces of building , the floating columns can also be treated as gravity columns. |
